Topic: Gallup Organization's
StrengthsFinder Self-Assessment
Speaker: Joshua Staffieri
Location: Community Center,
Mercer Island, WA (For directions, click here)
Joshua Stafieri will be presenting on the Gallup Organization’s
self-assessment, StrengthsFinder, which he has used as
a career counselor for almost four years.
Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best
every day? Chances are, you don't. All too often, our natural
talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote
more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our
strengths. To help people uncover their talents, Gallup introduced
the first version of its online assessment, StrengthsFinder,
in the 2001 management book Now, Discover Your Strengths.
This book was more than five years
on the bestseller lists and ignited a global conversation,
while StrengthsFinder
helped millions to discover their top five talents. In StrengthsFinder
2.0, Gallup unveils the new and improved version of its popular
assessment, language of 34 themes, and much more. While you
can read this book in one sitting, you'll use it as a reference
for decades. Loaded with hundreds of strategies for applying
your strengths, this new book and accompanying website will
change the way you look at yourself — and the world
around you — forever.”
What Josh can offer then is a simple overview of the assessment.
He would encourage all who attend to take the assessment
in advance so that he can break down some of the 34 strength
themes in order to better help them understand their results
and the benefits of the assessment.
For those that are interested in
purchasing an assessment, they can visit any major retail
bookstore (e.g., Barnes & Noble)
and purchase the book, StrengthsFinder 2.0, which includes
a one-time user code to take the assessment online. The book
can be purchased on-line as well at Amazon.com for only $11.97,
or people can visit www.strengthsfinder.com.
Josh Staffieri is a Southern CA native,
who received his BA in Psychology from the University of
San Diego. Because of his interest helping and challenging
college students to think about who they are, he obtained
his MS in College Student Personnel from Miami University
(OH). For the past six years, Josh has been working in higher
education and specifically career services. He was introduced
to Gallup’s breakthrough assessment, StrengthsQuest,
and has found great success using it with college students
and people of all ages. Josh also uses StrengthsQuest as
the cornerstone piece for staff development workshops at
Green River Community College, where he now works as an Educational & Career
Planner.
In addition, here are some points to pass along for those
who want to take this assessment:
1. The assessment is internet based and can be taken anywhere
on-line.
2. You will need approximately 30 – 45
minutes to complete the assessment.
3. Take it during a time you will not be interrupted (e.g.,
phone calls) because each question is timed 20 seconds and
proceeds automatically.
Upon completion of the assessment:
1. Print your “Signature Theme” results
(5 paragraphs; 1 for each strength).
2. Highlight the sentences in each paragraph that resonate
with you.
3. Bring the highlighted sheet(s) to the PSCDA meeting.
This
meeting will be followed by an interactive discussion about
this topic in the workplace.
Plan to attend and be inspired!
