PSCDA February Speaker

February 1, 2007, 6:30 PM

Topic: Soft Skills

Speaker: Sue Mackey

Location: Community Center, Mercer Island, WA (For directions, click here)

Sue Mackey is the founder and principle of The Mackey Group, a Seattle-based consulting firm, recognized nationally for its work in the development and implementation of skill-based standards for business, government and non-profits. She has co-authored the book Living Well, Working Smart with business partner Laura Tonkin, and will draw from this work when she addresses PSCDA at this meeting.

Sue will be defining and focusing on “soft skills,” skills that influence character, attitude and behavior. These skills work synergistically with hard skills and are a determinant of how successful one will be at their endeavors … you can have all the hard skills you need to do the job, but if your soft skills are weak, you may still fail. Therefore, it is important to properly assess and understand one’s set of soft skills and be sure they are well-matched to the goals being set.

Sue’s work has strong implications for anyone involved in career development activities. Don’t forget to join us for her introduction to this important topic. And, since you’re coming anyway, why not bring a guest!
