Doing the Work on Career Challenges...
The Work of Byron Katie Applied to Career Issues

How many times have your clients expressed thoughts like these?

  • No one wants to hire a 54-year old woman.
  • It was a terrible environment to work in.
  • People expect me to be a doormat and still make my numbers.
  • They shouldn’t expect me to ________________

There are any number of pitfalls on the path to a happy career. How your clients handle these pitfalls has everything to do with whether or not they stay on the path until the miracle happens.

In this interactive presentation, Master Business Coach Molly Gordon will introduce The Work of Byron Katie and show us how we can apply it to career issues – both for our clients and ourselves.

The Work is a simple process of inquiry. Using four questions and turn-arounds, you can investigate the stressful thoughts that turn pitfalls into sinkholes. The Work ends the war with the self, and when you aren’t fighting with yourself, it’s amazing how well other people start to behave. ;-)

The Work develops what is variously referred to as EQ, emotional intelligence and emotional literacy: the ability to manage oneself and one's relationships through recognition of emotional reactions to people and situations. Using The Work, you can effectively address the professional challenges-such as stress, burnout, difficulty in communication, and physical and emotional pain-that impede the ability to relate with compassion and understanding.

The Work helps create more openness and clarity in interactions with colleagues, clients, supervisors and direct reports so that one is more available, fluid and efficient at work.

The Work is a sort of universal wrench that can un-do the most stuck patterns and belief systems. Come on down and find out for yourself how to use this deceptively simple tool.

You’ll find abundant free resources including instruction in The Work and worksheets for doing The Work at Byron Katies's website: http://www.thework.com/index.asp

By the way....Molly is a graduate of the October 2003 9-day School for The Work and is a volunteer on The Work Hotline, a free service for anyone that wants to be facilitated in the process. She does The Work on an (almost) daily basis.
